Keto Broccoli Salad – Important Tips
Veggies – Add arugula, lettuce, kale, spinach, avocados, asparagus, or you can add half broccoli and half cauliflower to make a delicious keto broccoli cauliflower salad.
Mayo – Add any mayo of your choice, my favorite brands are Primal Kitchen, Dukes, and Chosen Foods. If you want to make this salad with mayo, then add sour cream instead but you will miss out on the tangy flavor.
Taste the perfect salad – Assemble the salad as instructed below and serve, but to add extra flavor, allow the marinated salad to rest in the fridge for about 1-2 hours or overnight before serving. In this way, broccoli will get even more flavorful.
Add any low carb friendly ranch or blue cheese dressing or make your own homemade dressing.
Other variations – Add some cooked ham or chicken to add more nutritional value to this dish.
Delicious Variations
Looking to change things up? Try these tasty variations:
- Add Protein: Toss in shredded rotisserie chicken or grilled shrimp for a heartier meal.
- Switch Up the Cheese: Replace cheddar with feta, mozzarella, or blue cheese for a new twist.
- Nuts and Seeds: Add pecans, walnuts, or pumpkin seeds for an extra layer of crunch.
- Avocado Addition: Mix in fresh avocado chunks for creamy texture and healthy fats.
How to Serve Keto Broccoli Salad
This keto broccoli salad is incredibly versatile! Here are some serving ideas:
- As a Side Dish: Serve it alongside grilled chicken, steak, or fish for a complete meal.
- Potlucks and Picnics: It’s a crowd-pleaser at gatherings—just make a big batch and watch it disappear.
- Lunch on the Go: Pack it in a container for a healthy, filling work lunch.
- BBQ Essential: It’s the perfect low-carb alternative to traditional pasta or potato salads.
How to Store Keto Broccoli Salad
- Refrigerator: Store the salad in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. The flavors will continue to develop over time.
- Freezing: I don’t recommend freezing this salad, as the creamy dressing and fresh broccoli will not thaw well.
Make-Ahead Tip: You can prepare the dressing and chop all the ingredients a day ahead. Combine everything right before serving for maximum freshness.
Recipe FAQs
Is broccoli salad keto-friendly?
Yes! Traditional broccoli salad often includes sugar in the dressing. By using a keto-friendly sweetener and skipping any high-carb add-ins like raisins, this recipe is completely keto-approved.
Can I use frozen broccoli for this recipe?
Fresh broccoli works best for this salad because it stays crisp and crunchy. Frozen broccoli tends to be too soft and watery when thawed.
How many carbs are in keto broccoli salad?
This recipe contains approximately 4-5 net carbs per serving, depending on the exact ingredients used. It’s perfect for staying within your keto macros.
What can I substitute for mayonnaise?
If you’re not a fan of mayonnaise, you can use plain Greek yogurt or mashed avocado as a healthier, creamy alternative.
Can I make it dairy-free?
Absolutely! Simply omit the cheddar cheese and use a dairy-free dressing base.
